Vanha Ylioppilastalo, or the Old Student House in English, is a cherished cultural landmark in Helsinki with a rich history spanning over 140 years. Originally envisioned during the reign of Alexander II of Russia, it was built to provide a dedicated space for students, inspired by ideals of education, collaboration, and social reform. Designed by architect Axel Hampus Dalström and inaugurated in 1870, Vanha quickly became a hub for academic, cultural, and social life.

Over the decades, it has hosted countless celebrations, meetings, and performances, and is adorned with artworks by notable Finnish artists like R.W. Ekman and Akseli Gallen-Kallela. Today, Vanha remains a vibrant venue, deeply woven into the fabric of Helsinki’s cultural and student life.

The social event venue is a 15 min walk away from the Finlandia Hall. If you want to use public transportation we recommend using the tram.
The nearest local transportation stops are Ylioppilastalo (tram), Lasipalatsi (tram), Helsinki Central Railway Station (tram and train) and Kamppi Centre (bus). See the exact location of the venue from the map below.
